Think Tank – ‘Business Networking’ @ AscendersTech

It was Bersin’s turn to lead the Think Tank session today. She spoke at length about Business Networking, the simple tricks and techniques on how to go about it like a pro.

The presentation was made lively by the presenter herself not to mention the interactive audience. Questions were raised only to be clarified then and there by animated discussions between the audience and the presenter.

An interactive audience!

An interactive audience!

Networking was defined right at the beginning. Strategies regarding purposeful networking were debated. Being an ambivert was the way to be; that is, not being too much of an extrovert nor being too much of an introvert would help when it came to networking.

The issue of shyness was discussed, with members of the audience sharing their personal shyness moments and going on to explain jocularly how they had overcome them.

Business cards were a hot topic of discussion that went beyond the session itself. Following up on a lead is where most people went wrong and this is a crucial ‘must do’ for productive networking.

The session ended with a thought provoking question – What kind of a net-worker are you?

19th March 2014 – AscendersTech Anniversary

Another year has quickly slipped away and here we are, standing on the threshold of our seventh year of operations. How time flies and brings with it fresh plans, processes and people…

7th AscendersTech Anniversary

If we had a magic ball that could give us a glimpse of the future and what it holds for us, wouldn’t that be swell? We would be in a better position to budget and work towards the known rather than the unknown. Unfortunately, there is no magic ball; rather there is only the wisdom to gauge situations as they present themselves…wisdom gathered over the years through a myriad of events, job requirements, customers, vendors, staff, deliverables, ups, downs, swings, offerings and the like.

Lessons and learnings? We (meaning each and every Ascender) run the company as our very own company ought to be run. Jobs have to be done, targets have to be met, sales revenues have to roll in, discipline is to be maintained, timings have to be adhered to and customers have to be satisfied. There are many more details but these pretty much sum it all up.

The new lines of business introduced the last financial year:

  1. Language Translation along with all its allied services such as interpretation, proofreading, editing, content localization and voice overs, in an effective and efficient delivery model using modern technology and resources at global locations
  2. Web applications (renewed & refreshed) – a dedicated internal team to deliver the goods as per client specifications

Our new sister concern – APS or Ascend Property Services dealing with the marketing of Real Estate and all its allied services. We have made quite a few inroads in the Real Estate vertical and have officially announced it very recently.

Wishes to come true...

Wishes to come true…

We have seen an influx of new faces as well as some old ones back into the fold and we welcome them all warmly irrespective of gender, experience and qualifications. The outflows have been regretted as always. But as the saying goes, “The show must go on.”

The HRO department remains to be on top of the internal revenue race what with its capable recruiter workforce and strong customer base. The Web Applications department is trailing right behind and may soon overtake the HRO. Ascenders Business Solutions – ABS – is doing very well under capable hands. The operations are as smooth as ever and this year has seen an increase in the revenues based on the efficient handling of our customer’s systems. The Language Services department seems to be gaining momentum but it is a bit too early to tell. The foundation has been laid well and it is forecasted to be a good year.

We wish every Ascender a long and prosperous growth trajectory in the coming years. We also wish you a career that is driven by passion, loyalty, strong job satisfaction and subsequently, a good work-life merge.

Seating Arrangements

Last Saturday saw the Ascenders assembled in the Office terrace once again.

Getting ready

It was a special occasion in which the Ascenders received their prizes that they had so painstakingly won at the Annual Day celebrations. The Smile Box was also opened up for the judges to read out and decide on the best compliment and the most complimented person.

The day started with a simple breakfast in the open and so, the atmosphere turned out to be more like a picnic more than anything else. On this very informal note, the Ascenders had their prize distribution ceremony (if it could be called that).

One of the many prizes

The judges were two brilliant young men – Mr. Vinoth Kumar John Peter and Mr. Shankar Raman Ramachandran.

The guests had a few words to say about AscendersTech and the further growth of AscendersTech in general. The day had begun on a nice and pleasant note and also wound up with a lot of positive vibes. It was a fun Saturday forum as usual.

Prizes Galore!

On 9th July, 2011, AscendersTech started off on its trip to ‘Laughing Waters’ a farmhouse on the East Coast Road to celebrate our third annual day in style. At 6:30 am, the Ascenders all gathered at the office at Parsn Manere.

All set to go...

With the usual Ascenders hullaballoo, the entire troupe fitted in three vans made their way to the lovely farmhouse beside the sea.

The event managers (Mr. Muralikrishnan & team) were waiting for us along with steaming breakfast and coffee. As soon as the luggage was disposed off, the Ascenders had their fill of breakfast buffet style.

As the event managers began to get their events rolling, we decided to finish with a little bit of business first so that it would be fun and games all the way after that. The new Leave Policy was presented to the company, tweaked and enhanced.

The workforce were reassured that from this year onwards, there were more paid holidays than ever; new special leaves were introduced; in general, the entire Leave policy was more employee friendly than before.

The new Leave Policy in brief...

Immediately after the presentation, it was a continuous riot! The entire company had already been divided into 5 teams and preparations for this day had commenced more than a week before. Mailers were doing the rounds and colorful posters had been put up in both wings.

The events to come...

A smile box for compliments too, had been doing the rounds between the two wings and the onsite locations where a chunk of the Ascenders workforce were deployed.

The team captains introduced themselves with their nick names for the day (Dharamadi Dharmalingam , Tondiarpettai Dhandasoru, Adyar Azhagi, Soapu- Seepu-Kannaadi and Harry Potter Vaayaa)  their vice- captains and their teams (Teams too had peculiar names such as 10 Thillalangadis, Jalabala Junks, Nava Kusavaas, Red Hot Oompaloompas and Adainagappa Pathu Peru. The real day @ Laughing Waters started with a Treasure Hunt which had all the teams in a mad scramble to figure out their clues and search for the next one until they finally found the treasure!

Before and After

As the weather grew warmer and more humid despite the sea breeze, the Ascenders found themselves shifting to cooler locations within the perimeter.

Lunch is served

The day saw the Ascenders involved in a lot of heavy-duty team work, creative thinking and last minute preparations and modifications. There was a satisfying sense of fulfillment as people brought their heads together to plan, scheme, strategize, nominate and finally execute.

As teams vied with each other amidst friendly jibes and teasing, games unfurled themselves and every member present had a role to play with the sole purpose of bringing points and laurels to their respective teams.

In AscendersTech, everyone toes the line!

In the evening during the much needed tea-break, our Guest of Honour, Mr. Jayaramakrishnan (popularly known as JRK), made his entrance. JRK enthralled the workforce with his hallmark witty conversation and gyaan before awarding the best performers with the traditional AscendersTech  Gold Medals.

The Grand Finale was none other than the Fashion Show! Everyone had been waiting for the event with baited breaths. Preparations for this event had begun a week before as there were to be two ramp walks per team – one in style and the other in CROSS DRESSING! The outcome was amazing and downright hilarious…

and After...

Dinner was served; people took a late dip in the pool and generally lazed around after a day well spent.

Ascenders Technologies chose to celebrate its 2nd Annual Day at the hills of Yelagiri with its all its splendor.  It was a whole weekend filled with fun and frolic. The Rhythms Resort echoed with the continuous giggles and laughter of the Ascenders family.

The team began its journey from Chennai early in the morning of 29th May. Breakfast was served in the train.

Breakfast was amazing (shocking??)

The Ascenders Bonhomie

A well deserved snooze...zzzzz....

A few rounds of Housie followed. The holiday spirit was high and the van trip from Jolarpettai station up the winding hills of Yelagiri proved to be pleasurable what with the cool winds welcoming us to the top.

The Rhythms Resort by the lake

We received an excellent panoramic view of the lake which happens to be right next to the resort!

After freshening up, we were all geared up to take part in the events planned well in advance for us by our event managers Murali and Suresh, not to forget a little fellow by name Ashwanthe.

Team games, ice breakers, festivities and song and dance followed by the dozen.

Hairdressing contest!

The games were light and had everyone in splits. Team competition was high and fiery. Points were awarded and deducted depending on the rules laid down. Everyone was an enthusiastic participant and made sure he or she gave their best for the team.

Suresh scared the judges with his threatening eye movements not to mention his bobbing belly! Senthil impressed with his once-upon-a-time fit body and his perpetual grin. Finally, came the shy Ramesh and managed to do a jig. Anyways, the boys must be appreciated for throwing off their shirts and doing their bit for their teams…

And that night after the events…

The next day saw the Ascenders immersed in cricket followed by boat rides on the lake.

After these cheerful episodes, we assembled in the conference hall again for karaoke and dancing which was followed by group photo sessions.
