Bridge 2011 was a conference conducted by the ICT Academy of Tamil Nadu (ICTACT) in association with NASSCOM, with a specific focus on skills for future and the need for innovation and entrepreneurship. The conference was an excellent initiative to bridge the industry-academia gap. An atmosphere and platform was provided for the participants to discuss key issues in the improvement of the Industry-Institute scenario today. The issues revolved around technology, innovation, applied research, entrepreneurship, future virtual world, curriculum change, sustainability etc. Bridge 2011 proved to be the ideal opportunity for both industrialists and academicians to share their views, opinions, ideas and methods for making campus products industry ready. One of the major objectives of the conference was to arrive at an understanding of the future requirements of skills among entry level (both from the Academic point of view as well as the Industry point of view) employees of new gen organizations in the Indian IT and ITeS sector.

The focus of the discussions was also on the enablers to bridge the Industry – Academia gap; case studies were shared both from the Industry and Academia. Faculty development was highlighted and it was stressed that teachers required to be trained; refresher courses were a must. The main platform for change in the academic scenario lay in Social Media, eLearning, mLearning, assessment standardization etc. Discussions related to sustainability and innovation looked at the roles of the Academia, Government and the Industry for the purpose of deriving sustainable models and innovation.

In between these thought provoking sessions, quizzes were held and winners walked away with goody bags sponsored by Ascenders Technologies. AscendersTech made it a point to showcase the Ascend eLMS (our very own home-grown Electronic Learning Management System) during the conference in keeping with the role that technology plays in the present educational system.
